“….So when I left Castle Draclugia, I went to Sapling Village and met Miss Arianna, the librarian. She fixed my arm, with uh…some kind of key thing! Then I set out from Sapling Village and here I am!” Shamal nodded his head confidently as he concluded his tale.
“So your arm is healed?” asked Polari eagerly.
“I guess so. But she said it will always hurt. It’s not broken anymore, but Miss Arianna said that the wound is deep, and something that deep won’t go away. Not unless I evolve…” Shamal trailed off. Polari fell quiet. He knew evolution was a touchy subject for Shamal. A long time ago, when he first met Shamal, Polari had witnessed Shamal’s older brother try to force evolution on his under-experienced younger brother.
Polari patted Shamal on the head.
“Oh well,” sighed Shamal, “I’ll just have to learn to be right-handed…” Shamal paused, and then looked up at Polari happily, “I’m really glad I found you, I didn’t mean to worry you and Molly!”
“Oh that’s right!” gasped Polari. He dipped his head forward, sliding Shamal over his crest and onto his back, “We have to get back to Molly! She’s probably going to be angry we took so long to find each other. She went to Alomomola City for us, you know.”
“Ok,” said Shamal. The sun was starting to rise behind the mountains, its golden light pouring through the trees and sending dapples of light across the forest floor. “We should bring her some flowers,” Shamal whispered. “Have you noticed that there are more flowers lately?”
Polari had not noticed the flowers yet, partly because his head was throbbing from hunger. He remembered the headache he had been enduring for the past day. But now that he had found Shamal, he felt a bit better knowing that soon they would be in the village, getting the breakfast he had missed yesterday morning.
